🏫 Built for K-12 Teachers & Students

Revive Your WeDo 2.0 Robotics in the Classroom

An independent, web-based coding studio designed specifically for school Chromebooks, laptops, and tablets. Connect your SmartHubs directly over Web Bluetooth with zero software installation and 100% student privacy.

Why We Built This Studio

Schools around the world invested heavily in LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 sets. When official legacy software reached end-of-life, thousands of functional robotics kits were left unusable on modern school Chromebooks and operating systems.

The Problem: The original WeDo 2.0 desktop and tablet applications were retired by LEGO Education and removed from most app stores. Many school Chromebooks could no longer download or run the software, turning valuable physical robotics hardware into paperweights.
The Web Solution: Using modern W3C Web Bluetooth standards built right into Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, this web studio communicates directly with the WeDo 2.0 SmartHub from the browser. No app store, no APKs, no administrative installation rights, and no school IT red tape required.

Dual Learning Progression: Icon Blocks & Word Blocks

Differentiate instruction effortlessly across grade bands. Students can switch between visual icon tiles and Scratch-compatible text blocks at any time with a single click.

🧩 Icon Blocks

Grades K–2 (Ages 5–8)

A 100% reading-free, visual ribbon interface inspired by the classic WeDo 2.0 software. Perfect for early childhood and emerging readers.

  • Horizontal puzzle-piece snapping (left to right)
  • Icon-driven actions: spin motor, timer, sounds, lights
  • Tactile on-screen dials and steppers (no typing required)
  • 4 visual distance ranges with color ruler indicators
  • 5-direction spatial tilt arrows (straight, back, left, right, flat)

🔤 Word Blocks

Grades 3–8 (Ages 8–14)

Standard Scratch 3.0-style vertical snap blocks for intermediate learners advancing to computer science fundamentals and algorithms.

  • Vertical stack blocks with authentic Scratch 3.0 colors
  • Control flow: loops, wait timers, and conditional if / else
  • Variables, math arithmetic, random number generators
  • Dedicated event blocks for keyboard keys and arrow keys
  • 1% to 100% fine motor speed control and live sensor reporters

What This Studio Can Do

Everything you need to run complete STEM robotics curricula, student challenges, and open-ended engineering builds.

⚡

Native Web Bluetooth

Pairs directly to the WeDo 2.0 SmartHub. Automatic port detection for Port 1, Port 2, and real-time battery level monitoring.

🌀

Full Motor Control

Turn clockwise or counter-clockwise, run for timed durations, adjust speed from 1% to 100% with hardware-calibrated starting torque, or stop instantly.

📏

Distance Sensor

Supports 4 calibrated classroom distance ranges (<5cm, 5–10cm, 10–15cm, >15cm), relative object motion triggers (closer/away), and numerical distance reporters.

🧭

Tilt Orientation Sensor

Detects 5 spatial hub angles: straight (forward), back (down), left tilt, right tilt, and flat/level orientation with real-time feedback.

💡

Hub RGB Light & Sounds

Illuminate the SmartHub's LED in 10 vibrant colors. Play 8 synthesized sound effects (fanfare, laser, pop, chimes, animal sounds) through device speakers.

🤖

Interactive Virtual Stage

Built-in virtual robot simulator and digital canvas. Students can test their logic even before connecting physical bricks or when working remotely.

Student Privacy & School IT Approved

Engineered specifically for school compliance (COPPA, FERPA, GDPR).

🛡️

No Accounts or Logins

Students never create an account, log in, or enter personal information. No passwords to remember or reset.

🔒

100% Client-Side Privacy

All code execution and Bluetooth communication happen locally on the student's device. No telemetry, no tracking cookies, and zero student data collection.

💾

Local & Drive Saving

Students can save their code locally as standard .wedo project files or back them up directly to their school Google Drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can multiple students connect different robots in the same classroom?

Yes! To make pairing easy, have students turn on their SmartHub one at a time when connecting. Once paired, the Bluetooth connection is locked to that specific Chromebook and will not cross-talk with adjacent robots.

Does this require an internet connection while coding?

Once the web page is loaded, all block execution and Bluetooth communication run locally on the machine. As long as the browser tab remains open, students can code without an active internet connection.

How do students save their work?

Students can click the 💾 Save button in the top toolbar at any time to download their project file (.wedo), which can be uploaded to Google Classroom, saved to Google Drive, or stored locally.

Is this software free for schools?

Yes. This tool is free for public schools, private schools, libraries, clubs, and home educators worldwide to foster hands-on STEM education and sustainable reuse of educational robotics hardware.
